Bus number 406 is a Leyland Titan PD3, built in 1964 for the Sussex based Southdown Motor Services. The vehicle was one of a batch of 25 convertible buses fitted with an unusual detachable roof.
In days gone by, the roof would be removed for the summer open-top season and refitted for winter operation. We operate 406 permanently open-top as we have other traditional 1960s closed-top buses available.
406 is the ideal vehicle for an exciting and unique outing and a firm favourite for shorter wedding journeys, a trip to the races, corporate entertainment or a birthday treat!
The bus can carry 69 passengers in total, with 39 seats on the top deck and 30 on the lower. May we suggest you consider limiting guests to 30 (lower deck capacity) to allow for any unexpected showers.
In terms of overall safety, an open top bus should be considered similar to a double deck bus requiring up to 16 feet clearance. We can help with route planning and it's definitely worth considering trees and bridges which might restrict access to your venue. The width of the bus is 8 feet, so please bear in mind narrow driveways and parked cars.
Vehicles are usually available for hire each season from Spring until late September. As you might imagine, the buses are very popular so please don't hesitate to get in touch at the earliest opportunity.
The vehicles are based in West Sussex and are usually available for hire in East and West Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire between April and late Autumn each season.
Peter is your first point of contact and will assist you with all the necessary arrangements at every step. The vehicles can be booked well in advance and we'll be happy to discuss arrangements more than a year ahead.
