Vehicle restoration behind the scenes - index

Our restoration group was formed in 1988 with the intention of saving and preserving buses and coaches from a golden age, and after successfully obtaining a licence in 2000 we now operate some of our collection for the pleasure of others. All of our operational vehicles undergo stringent safety checks during the summer operating months to ensure their road-worthiness but once the season has finished in October much of the restoration and improvement work is then continued.

Here we show you some of the extensive behind the scenes work which will ensure the future availability of our vintage buses and coaches for many years to come. You can also follow progress of the painstaking rebuilding work of our reserve fleet – projects which may last many years. Finally, news of soon to be re-launched vehicles will be announced here, so please check regularly for updated information.

Pictured right is our 1964 closed top bus No. 954, standing in Brighton on 8th May 2008 ,after just having passed its first full passenger carrying MOT test since withdrawal by the Southdown bus company in 1977. We bought the bus in 1991 from a berry farmer in Scotland, since when the vehicle has undergone a complete restoration. 954 will now join our other vehicles on private hire work this summer.
